Il Teatrino (2008) is the belated sequel to Gunslinger Girl (2003), one of the the series that introduced the "murderous moppet" subgenre of anime. Badly injured adolescent orphans are brainwashed and given cybernetic implants that turn them into pint-sized assassins for a covert branch of the Italian government. The new adventures for the expanded cast involve plenty of mayhem, which Henrietta, Rico, Triela et al. perform with knives, pistols, machine guns, garrotes, martial arts--and cold-blooded good cheer. Their primary foe is Pinocchio, an equally icy but completely human assassin who is the adopted son of an underworld kingpin. Assisted by "freelance terrorists" Franco and Franca, he aids his father in nefarious schemes the girls must foil. The battle turns into a grudge match between Pinocchio and Triela that features such macabre howlers as, "How dare he shoot me with a gun Hilshire gave me!" Even more grotesque than the child-assassins themselves are the wistful boyfriend/daddy/big brother relationships they doggedly pursue with their "handlers." At times, Gunslinger Girl: Il Teatrino suggests Ninja Scroll restaged by the cast of Chobits, but these deadly dollies apparently have a fanbase in Japan, where an additional Gunslinger Girl OVA appeared in late 2008. (Rated TV MA: suitable for ages 16 and older: considerable violence, violence against women and children including torture, grotesque imagery, profanity, alcohol and tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

5 2010-04-07 Looking for an unpoliticaly correct show? Well if you are, you found it. If you are a fan of Bourne, Terminator, or 24 you should not be disapointed nor in the torcher of terrorists. So Liberal terrorist sympathizers beware...
5 2009-12-14 Better than the original The follow up to the first season of Gunslinger Girl is another stand-alone hit. While the first season provided solid background for Henrietta, this season focuses on both Triela and the new character "Pinocchio". It also features more action and suspense then the first season. Although there is a follow up OVA which looks amazing, it is not a necessary buy. Like the first season, Il Teatrino provides you with a solid, satisfactory, ending. If you bought and enjoyed Gunslinger Girl, this is a must buy, as is the OVA. However, this is more of the same. If you dislike the idea of cyborg children running around Italy with guns attacking terrorists- then this is not the series for you. It should also be noted that the animation is amazing, and has good voices for the English dub.

5 2009-12-09 Gunslinger Girl 2 Gunslinger Girl 2: Il Teatrino--The Complete Series

I really liked the first one so I took a chance and purchased this one also. The storyline could have had more details but that would have left me not wanting to see a third installment. If a third installment is ever released I will be sure to buy it.
5 2009-12-04 Keep it going Gunslinger Girls!! Once you get used to the slight character design changes, there is nothing else keeping you from enjoying this action-packed yet heart-warming anime series. The only drawback is that the series IS going to end sometime :(
Get it if you've got the first one. If you don't got the first one, god bless YOU!
1 2009-10-28 Gunslinger Girl 2 is almost unwatchable. I cannot stress enough, watch the first one a give this one a skip. I you have watched the first one then you have already seen all the good parts of Teatrino. It is like watching a one year old remake a great work.
